Climate Week in New York City is a focus of global attention. During the event, the Taiwan Green Energy for Charity Association (TGECA) and STUF United Fund hosted a forum titled “From Girls to Grannies: Gender-Responsive Climate Solutions for a Just Transition Across Generations.” The meeting was Taiwan’s first Climate Week activity to focus on gender, just transition, and climate issues. Representatives from leading international gender advocacy groups took part in the conversation. Speakers included world famous environmental activist Tzeporah Berman, human rights defender Zainab Salbi, and Columbia University and NASA climate scientist Miriam Nielsen. With its gendered perspective on climate action, the forum attracted a global audience and highlighted the active role that Taiwan is playing in international sustainability issues.
The event was held in partnership with the Taiwan Global Pathfinders Initiative promoted by the Ministry of Education’s Youth Development Administration. The initiative assisted TGECA in sending three young women to Climate Week—Lee Chia-ying, Lei Hsin-huan, and Lin Wen-hsuan. The trio helped organize the side event, engaged in international exchanges, and demonstrated that Taiwanese youths could be changemakers.
