The first ever World Bird Fair was held in Taichung from September 20 to 21. The event brought together 50 birding organizations from more than 30 countries. Over 120 exhibitors and vendors set up booths at the venue displaying birding information and specialist equipment from around the world. Participants were given a close-up view of the wonders of nature. The fair also included an ecology forum with presentations from famous travel writers, demonstrating Taiwan’s standing as a prime location for international exchanges on conservation.

Speaking at the event, Taichung City Deputy Mayor Cheng Chao-hsin thanked the World Birdfairs Council for selecting Taichung as the venue for the inaugural fair. He noted that as well as providing international networking opportunities for birdwatchers, the gathering was an important platform for exchanges on education, tourism, and sustainable development. “I believe that this kind of international cooperation will enhance public awareness about ecotourism,” said Cheng, adding, “I look forward to more international visitors coming to Taichung to see the amazing interplay between the city and birds.”
