From August 20 to 31, youth ambassadors from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs visited the Marshall Islands—one of Taiwan’s Pacific diplomatic allies—as well as the US territories of Hawaii and Guam. During the trip, they were received by dignitaries including Kalani Kaneko, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Marshall Islands; Sylvia Luke, Lieutenant Governor of Hawaii; Lourdes Leon Guerrero, Governor of Guam; James Moylan, delegate to the US House of Representatives; and Frank Blas Jr., Speaker of the Guam Legislature. The group also conducted exchanges with academics and other young people as well as performing well-received cultural shows.

The delegation’s first stop was Hawaii, where Lieutenant Governor Luke encouraged them with the aloha spirit and praised Taiwan’s achievements in agriculture and technology. At the East-West Center, the ambassadors held a discussion on energy, sustainability, and regional cooperation with local experts. They also put on a show of indigenous dancing and traditional performances at the Ala Moana Center, showcasing Taiwan’s cultural diversity.

On August 24, the group flew to the Marshall Islands. They met with Minister of Foreign Affairs Kaneko and Minister of Education Gerald Zackios, who underlined the strength of the diplomatic ties with Taiwan. The ambassadors held a Youth Forum on Climate Change with students at the College of the Marshall Islands, which was addressed by Minister of Environment Bremity Lakjohn. The two sides exchanged views on climate change and sustainable development. The delegation also staged a cultural night that was attended by key political figures and representatives of other sectors. The event highlighted the cultural links between Taiwan and the Marshall Islands.

In Guam, the youth ambassadors had a meeting with Governor Guerrero, who noted that Taiwan and Guam shared common values and rich Austronesian culture. She encouraged the young people to study local history and deepen exchanges. Speaker Blas and Representative Moylan engaged in a discussion with the group on the cross-strait situation at a youth forum on Indo-Pacific strategy. The visit concluded with another cultural night performance that was attended by nearly 200 people. The lively event showcased the energy and cultural soft power of Taiwanese youth.
