On December 5, 2024, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs François Chihchung Wu spoke at the Taiwan International Model United Nations Meeting organized by the Commerce Development Research Institute.
Appearing on behalf of Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung, Wu started by welcoming the participating students to the Institute of Diplomatic and International Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He said that he was happy to see young students take an interest in issues such as climate change, human rights, public health, and gender equality and demonstrate their passion for diplomacy and international affairs through the MUN. Wu explained that Taiwan would continue to hold to the principles of being professional, pragmatic, and constructive in seeking meaningful participation in the World Health Organization, the International Civil Aviation Organization, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the International Criminal Police Organization, and other global bodies and multilateral mechanisms. He added that Taiwan would work to expand its visibility around the world. The deputy minister encouraged the attending students to take up careers in diplomacy and jointly strive to advance Taiwan’s international relations.
Hsu Tain-tsair, president of the event organizer the CDRI, also addressed the MUN. Over 70 high school and college students from Taiwan, Japan, Haiti, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and other countries took part in the well-attended event. MOFA continues to encourage young Taiwanese students to engage in international affairs in the spirit that everyone can be a diplomat.
