The 2024 College High World Street Dance Summit kicked off in Taipei on December 7, 2024. The competition was hosted by Team SKIP, a Taiwanese street dance promotion association. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs François Chihchung Wu attended the opening ceremony on behalf of Minister Lin Chia-lung.

In her remarks at the opening, Vice President Bi-khim Hsiao said street dance was a world sport that transcended all ages, body types, and generations. She added that breaking had become an official event at the Paris Olympics this year. “I hope that more outstanding students will compete internationally through the medium of dance to demonstrate Taiwan’s vitality and energy to the world,” Hsiao said. She closed by thanking the international teams for coming to Taiwan to take part in the competition.

As one of the Opening Ceremony guests, Wu posed for photographs and watched the competition with Hsiao, the event organizers Team Skip and the General Assembly of Chinese Culture, and other dignitaries. The deputy minister praised the efforts of the hosts in organizing the international competition and encouraged young people to engage in international exchanges through sports.

The summit attracted teams from colleges in Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, France, and Hong Kong. Over 1,000 people took part. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to encourage Taiwanese groups to expand their connections through sporting events and form a Team Taiwan with the government to jointly promote sports diplomacy and bring Taiwan to global attention.
