Modern Women's Foundation (MWF) is proud to announce new funding from Sony Music Entertainment Taiwan aimed at addressing the issue of domestic and sexual abuse against women and children across the country.
Through this new funding, MWF will expand its offering of essential services for domestic violence and sexual assault victims in Taiwan through its service centres, as well as continue to raise awareness through education and advocacy programs. In particular, funding from Sony Music Entertainment Taiwan will support MWF’s latest program, which focuses on addressing economic empowerment for women subjected to domestic violence by helping women not only stand up to physical forms of abuse; but also, economic abuse including exploitation, limiting the victim’s use of money or her earning potential, and more.
MWF also plans to work with Sony Music Entertainment Taiwan artists to raise awareness about domestic violence among different communities in the country.
Established in 1987, MWF is a non-government, non-profit organization offering services for victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse and sexual harassment. Through its six local centers and service centers located within five courts in Taiwan, MWF helps more than 7,000 victims each year, providing them with case management, legal aid, counselling and other services. At a community level, MWF raises awareness about gender-based violence and contributes to the prevention and intervention of such violence through workshops, trainings and campaigns. On a policy level, MWF continues to advocate for changes in legislation to better protect the rights of women.
“There is no place for violence in modern society and every woman and child has the right to have agency over her personal safety and wellbeing,” said Wei-Kang Pan, Chairwoman of the Board at Modern Women’s Foundation. “From the founding of our first Women Protection Center more than 30 years ago to our involvement in legislation for the prevention of domestic and sexual violence over the years, MWF has been a pioneer in the protection of women and children in Taiwan. With support from Sony Music Group’s Global Social Justice Fund, we can do even more to aid those who come to us and defend the rights of women and children who witness or are subjected to violence, and to eliminate inequality from our society.”
“We look forward to partnering with MWF who do vital work to support and empower women across the country,” said Kevin Foo, General Manager, Taiwan, Sony Music Entertainment. “As a global music company, Sony Music Group is committed to actively supporting communities across all the markets where we operate. Through this partnership with MWF we hope to continue working towards our goal of fostering equitable and liveable societies for all.”
MWF is the latest recipient announced in Taiwan from Sony Music Group’s Global Social Justice Fund. Launched in 2020, the Fund supports social justice and anti-racist initiatives around the world. Two years on, the Fund has supported nearly 400 community partners globally and expanded to cover areas such as civic engagement, environmental justice, criminal justice reform, and education.
